Once your copy of the framework has been made, you will need to configure your site using the steps below.
Be sure you’ve completed the prerequisites, since requesting the framework does not get you a virtual host or Sitehost account.
Description of the video:
Initial Set Up. Your IU Web Framework request was approved and created. Now, it is time to configure your site. This is done by your site’s Site Manager using the WCMS and the WCMS Manager Tools. Be sure you have completed the prerequisites, since requesting the framework does not get you a virtual host or Sitehost account.
Navigate to the WCMS by going to https://sites.wcms.iu.edu. You will be prompted to login with IU Login if you are not already authenticated.
Alternatively, you can go to https://wcms.iu.edu and click the Login link. Accessing the WCMS requires users to be on an IU Network or connected to the IU VPN.
You can also use IUanyWare to access the WCMS. Learn more about IUanyWare on the UITS website at the following link: https://uits.iu.edu/services/technology-for-teaching/instruction-and-assessment-tools/iuanyware.
You will be presented with the Dashboard and primary Menu upon logging in to the WCMS. Click the site navigation dropdown menu on the top left of the screen. Select your IU Web Framework site.
You WCMS site is divided into three sections: the header menu, the content tree, and the content view. The content of your website is organized into a structure of nested folders. The root or base folder contains all the content of your site and is labeled with your WCMS site name. The root folder in this example is IU-FRAME-WEBS.demo.
You will need to update the Settings block to configure your Framework site. At the bottom of the content tree is a block titled Settings. Right click on the Settings block and select “Edit” from the context menu.
Let’s fill out the Settings block together. This example assumes you are using IU Sitehosting and default publishing settings. Additional information for unique scenarios are available on the Framework website at: https://framework.iu.edu/setup/index.html.
Account Name: Sitehost/Sitehost Test Account Name
Staging URL: The Sitehost Test URL, for example. https://groupsAccountName.sitehost-test.iu.edu.
Live URL: The Sitehost virtual host URL, for example https://framework.iu.edu.
Page Extension: The default is .html and will work with PHP via an .htaccess AddHandler. It is not recommended that you change this for a default installation.
Includes: Determines the way header and footer assets get included, either PHP or server-side includes (SSI). IF the server you publish to does not support includes, then None can be selected. It is not recommended that you change this for a default installation using IU Sitehosting.
Navigation rendering: By default, navigation is rendered on the server with PHP. If the server you publish to does not support PHP, then no can be selected and you’ll have ot publish the entire site for navigational changes.
Campus: Select your campus from the dropdown menu.
Site Title: Enter your site’s title. Be sure to add the full name. For example, VPCPF shoul dbe spelled out as Vice President for Capital Planning and Facilities. A <span></span> tag can be placed around parts of your title that you don’t want bolded. Long site titles can be spearated into two lines with smaller text above the main title by putting the first section of the title in <span class=”small”></span>.
Theme (Secondary Color): Select your site’s theme which will be used as the secondary color to crimson and light gray. All theme colors are based on the IU web brand colors. Please use only these brand colors across your site.
Primary Navigation Dropdown: The primary navigation can include a drop-down with the contents of that section.
Include Campus Emergency Banner: For campus level sites, IU-Notify banners can be displayed.
Social Media: Enter the usernames for your social media accounts if you would like social icons to appear in the belt just above the site’s footer.
Click the “Preview Draft” button when you are finished editing the Settings Block. Review the changes you made and click the “Submit” button to commit the changes to your site in the WCMS. Any time a change is made to the Settings block, the whole site will need to be republished for changes to go live on your site.
Transports
The WCMS uses Transports to represent the location to which you are publishing. This could be a database or web hosting server. Transports are created and edited using the WCMS Manager Tools web application.
Navigate to the WCMS Manager Tools by going to https://manager.wcms.iu.edu. Alternatively, navigate to https://wcms.iu.edu and click the Manager Tools link at the bottom of the page. Log in to the WCMS Manager Tools using your personal IU credentials, not your group account credentials.
The first page you will be directed to after logging in is the Dashboard. The Dashboard provides links to WCMS and developer resources.
The Manage Transports tool allows you to add and remove Transports. Select the Manage Transports navigation link to access the Manage Transports tool. Expand your site and click on the pencil icon to enter your SFTP information. This includes your Sitehost account name, server directory, and group account passphrase.

Publish to Test
It’s time to make sure everything is set up correctly and publish the site to Sitehost Test, the test server. It is recommended that you always publish your content to the test server before publishing to the live or production server. This is to assure that everything is working as expected on your website.
Go to your site in the WCMS and publish the base folder to test. Do this by right-clicking on the base folder of your site and selecting Publish from the context menu. Click on the “View Publish Settings” header to open the publish settings. Make sure the checkbox is selected for your test server. In this example, the test server is “Sitehost-test.iu.edu - TEST”. Click the “Publish” button.
Your IU Web Framework site is now configured and published to your test server.

The WCMS Manager Tools. The WCMS is a fully featured content management system. However, there are some tasks that need to be completed using a web application called the WCMS Manager Tools. The WCMS Manager Tools allow site managers the ability to add users to the WCMS, create and manage groups, and update important site settings. Let's look at each tool and explore each tool’s purpose.
Navigate to the WCMS Manager Tools by going to https://manager.wcms.iu.edu. Alternatively, navigate to https://wcms.iu.edu and click the Manager Tools link at the bottom of the page. Log in to the WCMS Manager Tools using your personal IU credentials, not your group account credentials.

The Manage Users tool allows you to add a user to the WCMS and edit a user’s group assignments. Click the Manage Users navigation link to access the Manage Users tool. You can add or edit a user by typing a username in the username field and click the “Select User” button.
The Manage Groups tool allows you to add and remove users from groups. You can also create new groups. Select the Manage Groups navigation link to access the Mange Groups tool. Click the “create a new group” link to create a new group. To edit an existing group, select the group from the dropdown menu.
The Manage Transports tool allows you to add and remove Transports. A transport represents the location to which you are publishing. This could be a database or web hosting server. Select the Manage Transports navigation link to access the Manage Transports tool. Select the site you would like to edit from the accordions. Click the pencil icon to edit the Transport. Click the green plus sign to create a new Transport.
The Site Settings and Role tool allows you to update site settings and assign groups to roles. Select the Site Settings and Roles navigation link to access the Site Settings and Roles tool. Select the site you would like to edit from the select site dropdown menu. Click the apply changes button to apply any changes made with this tool.
The View Access tool allows you to view what assets a user or group can view and edit. Select the View Access navigation link to access the View Access tool. Select the site you would like to view from the select site dropdown menu. You can then select a group or user to view their access. Note that the pencil icon indicates a group or user can edit the asset. Grayed out assets are not visible by the group or user.
The Site Statistics tool allows you to view basic statistics about your site. Select the Site Statistics navigation link to access the Site Statistics tool. Select the site you would like to view from the select site dropdown menu. Statistics include the number and total size of site assets, number of recently published assets, groups and users listed by role, and recent content activity.

Note: If you are using Sitehost/Sitehost Test, as part of the creation of your framework copy, we will install additional files on your account.
If you need to run this script on your own, navigate to the web directory of your account and run /groups/iuframe/bin/setup_framework and follow the prompts. If applicable, be sure to use your virtual host URL for production, not the default Sitehost URL.
