Google Analytics

Google Analytics

If you would like to track analytics on your site, you will need to set up a Google Analytics account to get a tracking code for your URL. If you already have a tracking code pointing to your URL, then you can continue to use it. Google Analytics can be used on its own, or in combination with Google Tag Manager.

How to set up Google Analytics

  1. Go to Google Analytics and sign in or create a Google account.
  2. Select the Admin button.
  3. In the ACCOUNT column, use the drop-down menu to select the account to which you want to add the property.
  4. In the PROPERTY column, select create new property from the drop-down menu.
  5. Select Website and enter your site’s information to get the tracking code.
  6. In the WCMS, click _includes/analytics.html.
  7. Select edit and paste in your tracking code.
  8. Publish.

Google Tag Manager

Google Tag Manager is a new tool that makes it easy to add and update website tags—including conversion tracking, site analytics, remarketing, and more—with just a few clicks, and without needing to edit website code.

In other words, Tag Manager acts as a container to hold all of the tracking code for a site. The ability to add Tag Manager is included in all IU framework websites. To activate it, you need to create, configure, add your Google Analytics tracking code, and publish your Tag Manager container at the Google Tag Manager site.

Once your setup is complete, you can enter your Tag Manager code in _includes/tag-manager.html in the WCMS by replacing the existing code.
