Development of Web Framework 2.0
Winter 2019We’ll begin development of a new, easier-to-maintain WCMS codebase that allows for a leaner client site, the ability to do automatic or manual updates, and an improved system for displaying custom content.
Web Framework 2.0-alpha release
Spring 2020We’ll create an alpha release of the new codebase, and invite development partners and other stakeholders to test the new system and provide feedback.
Web Framework 2.0 release
Summer 2020*We’ll release version 2.0 of the Web Framework, along with a new website and documentation.
Winter 2019
- Create a codebase that separates framework code from individual sites, reducing the work involved in updates
- Implementation of researched Framework 2.0 features
- Automatic or manual update system giving users control of when updates are applied
- Simpler, easier-to-maintain codebase
- Improved system for displaying custom content
- Plan for a migration path from Framework v1 and pre-v1 to v2
- Share timeline and roadmap for Framework 2.0 with marketing and IT communities
- Release documentation for how to write plugins (allowing for developers to start work on customizations ahead of next generation)
- Develop a plan for communicating with and gathering feedback from technical and non-technical Framework users (alternatives to Github, Slack, etc.)
- Create inventory of needed documentation
- Develop a plan and timeline for end-of-life for Framework 1.2 support
- Begin work with Design System, User Experience Office (UXO), and UA brand team on retirement of the Web Style Guide

- Working prototype of new Framework architecture
- Plan for Framework site migration
- Statewide IT presentation and additional next generation shares
Spring 2020
- Complete codebase
- Invitation-only alpha release to development partners and other stakeholders (TBD) for testing and feedback
- Begin implementation of markup from Design System team
- Create developer and user documentation
- Test migration tools
- Work with partners at WebTech and Web Services Support (WSS) on ways to streamline request process
- Provide training and documentation for WebTech, WSS and IU Studios partners
- Continued communications highlighting timeline, available documentation

Summer 2020
- Incorporate feedback from testing, fix bugs
- Continued implementation of markup from Design System team
